چکیده

Monitorovanie a únik testovanej WWER – 440 látky namočenej do vyčerpaného paliva zo skladu sústredenom na Slovensku An accelerated monitoring system designed for the Slovak wet interim spent fuel storage facility in NPP Jaslovské Bohunice bases on the newly designed “cesium detectors” is presented in the paper. Since 1999, leak tests of WWER-440 fuel assemblies are provided by a special leak tightness detection system “Sipping in Pool” delivered by the Framatome-anp with external heating for the precise defects determination. Although this system seems to be very effective, the detection time of all fuel assemblies in one storage pool is too long. Therefore, a new “on-line” detection system, based on the new sorbent NIFSIL for an effective Cs and Cs activity was developed. The design of this detection system and its application possibility in Slovak wet interim spent fuel storage facility as well as preliminary results are presented.

Modal Analysis of Spent Fuel Cask for WWER-1000 Reactors

The Spent Fuel Assemblies (SFAs) of WWER-1000 reactors are planned to be transported by special containers which are supposed to be designed in a manner to stand against vibrations and impacts in order to protect the spent fuel from any possible damage. The vibration opposition of these containers shall be far beyond the critical resonance, because the resonances about the natural frequency of ...

Thermal assessment of new Ignalina NPP casks for spent nuclear fuel storage at some abnormal conditions

For interim storage of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP), the so-called “dry” storage technology has been chosen. In this case, SNF after a cooling (pre-storage) period in water pools (no less than 5 years) is placed into GNS (Germany) manufactured metal CASTOR ® RBMK-1500 or reinforced concrete CONSTOR ® RBMK-1500 casks and may be stored for at least 50 years ...

Determination of Temperature and Velocity Fields in a Corridor at a Central Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility Using Numerical Simulation

The presented article deals with the description of a numerical model of a corridor at a Central Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility (hereinafter CISFSF). The model takes into account the effect of air flows on the temperature of stored waste. The computational model was implemented in the ANSYS/CFX programming environment in the form of a CFD task solution, which was compared with an approxima...

Analysis of radionuclide release through EBS of conceptual repository for Lithuanian RBMK spent nuclear fuel disposal – case of canister with initial defect

At the Ignalina nuclear power plant (NPP), app. 22 thousands of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) assemblies from the RBMK-1500 type reactor have been accumulated [15]. During the operation of Ignalina NPP, the assemblies of SNF were stored in water pools and in storage containers, located in the interim storage facilities. According to revised Lithuanian Strategy for Management of Radioactive Waste [20...

The problem of used nuclear fuel: lessons for interim solutions from a comparative cost analysis

An acceptable long-term solution for used (spent) fuel from nuclear power reactors has evaded all countries engaged in the civilian nuclear fuel cycle. Furthermore, many countries are trying to develop interim storage solutions that address the shortage of storage in the spent fuel cooling pools at reactors. The United States has a particularly acute problem due to its adherence to an open fuel...
